ANDREW GUNHUS

Andrew Gunhus is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Ames, Iowa. Since picking up a brush in 2018, he has evolved from watercolor experiments into a bold fusion of acrylic, oil pastels, and layered textures that bring portraits, abstractions, and emotionally driven compositions to life.

Rooted in instinct and personal transformation, his work channels vibrant energy, raw emotion, and spiritual growth through an intuitive, brightly colored style. Andrew’s art has caught the attention of local galleries and organizations, leading to his first solo exhibition in 2021 and the co-founding of The Middle of NOWhere Rural Art & Music Festival. Driven by creativity and community, Andrew continues to build a body of work that encourages reflection, sparks conversation, and reminds others of the power of authentic expression.
